Dwayne Martin became interested in photography about 15 years ago when he got his first camera, a very early Kodak digital, but he became interested in film photography in 2009. Unfortunately, that was also about the time that the local developing labs started to disappear in south Florida, but while that slowed him down it also prompted him to start developing his own film, and since then he hasn’t picked up a digital camera!

He was inspired by an art nude magazine he bought in a used book store in 1999. That led to the discovery of Helmut Newton’s work, and the combination of those two things stuck with him until years later when he started shooting nudes.

Dwayne is primarily a large format photographer these days but he still shoots medium format. He said, “The older the camera and lens the better. Working with old large format equipment and film is complicated and that makes me better because I know that if I make a mistake that’s the only chance I will get because the model will be long gone by the time I realize.”
Looking at his volume of stunning work, those mistakes don’t happen very often.
